How to Become a Contributor to the OVRC
Newsletter
Articles and items of interest to OVRC members
are ALWAYS welcome and actively solicited. One of the great
things about the hobby is the sharing of information among
members. Also, writing articles gives you the opportunity
to make a permanent contribution to the hobby.
Contact: The information for contacting the
editor and submitting material is on the contacts web page.
Subject: Anything of interest to OVRC members
which is neither illegal or libelous.
Text: Information for your article can in
any form you like - verbal, letter, emit diskette, photo copy
written out on a brown paper bag, even rumours are considered!
If you provide the basic facts, the editor will be pleased
to work with you in preparing your article. For submissions
received on diskette or via email, files in just about any
format are fine. They will be imported into a word processor
(usually Wordperfect or Word), checked for spelling and typos,
converted to plain old ASCII text (.txt) file to remove any
wordprocessor formatting and styles and then imported into
PageMaker for the final layout.
Photos: You can scan them yourself or send
the original photo, which will be returned promptly scanned
image files can be sent by email or diskette. For scanned
files, please use 300 dots per inch (DPI) greyscale if possible
- while 75 DPI JPEG format colour images are fine for viewing
on a computer monitor, 300 DPI TIF (or TIFF) greyscale image
files are preferred for printing screened images. Colour images
should be converted to greyscale (black & white) to minimize
file size - colour is not used in the Newsletter.
A300 DPI greyscale TIFF image file requires
about l00k bytes per square inch of image. A4'' x 6".
image would then be 24 square inches or 2.4 megabytes. This
is too large for a floppy disk, but it can be sent by email
in about 10 minutes, even with a 56k baud modem.
Author: Be sure to send a small 300 DPI 'TIF
image of yourself and a short biography for the ''Meet the
Author'' section. Our members are very interested in meeting
you and finding out how you got involved in all of this!
Edit Policy: lf the editor thinks that a significant
change should be made to your article (i.e. other than typos,
spelling, etc.) he will get your agreement on changes before
proceeding.
The hardest thing about writing for a Newsletter
is to get started on your first article. After that, people
really are amazed at how easy it really was and the interest
and discussion which it generates.
